Pet Microchipping
What is Microchipping and How Does it Work?
A microchip is a tiny device, about the size of a grain of rice, that contains a unique identification number. It is implanted just under your pet’s skin, typically between the shoulder blades, using a simple injection. The process is quick, virtually painless, and no more uncomfortable than a routine vaccine.
Once implanted, the microchip can be read by a handheld scanner, which is a standard tool at veterinary clinics, animal shelters, and humane societies. When scanned, the microchip transmits its unique ID number. This number is linked to your contact information in a national pet recovery database. If your lost pet is found, their microchip can be scanned, and you can be contacted immediately.
The Benefits of Microchipping Your Pet
Microchipping is a small step that offers huge benefits:
- Permanent Identification: Unlike collars or tags, a microchip cannot fall off or be lost. It provides a reliable, lifelong form of identification.
- Increased Reunion Rates: Statistics show that microchipped pets are much more likely to be reunited with their owners than those without a chip. It’s the most effective way to ensure a happy reunion.
- Peace of Mind: Knowing your pet has a permanent form of identification provides invaluable peace of mind, especially if they are an adventurous or indoor-outdoor pet.
- Simple and Safe: The procedure is quick and simple, with no need for anesthesia. We use sterile, single-use microchip devices to ensure your pet’s safety.
